Bastion’s Mission
Vision
BASTION, INC. will be a flexible, strong, accountable and transparent organization with leadership, recognized by governments at every level in Middle Tennessee, civil society and organizations of persons with interest in diversity and integration as the lead adviser on African immigrant issues, and a leader in raising awareness of the need for deliberate programs to address African immigrant issues.
Mission
The mission of Bastion, Inc. is to promote self-sufficiency in target areas in Middle Tennessee by providing educational opportunities and workshops for growth and development for the immigrant African Community. Bastion will be providing programs that enhance smooth transition, cultural integration, and economic empowerment while promoting healthy life skills.
Goals
To educate, empower and support immigrants, refugees, and other individuals in the process of social and economic integration into the larger community.
To enrich the cultural diversity of Tennessee through promotion of cultural appreciation and integration.
The strategies for achieving this goal are:
- To provide the groups including the immigrant communities, particularly, women and youth with access to economic opportunity through integrative strategies. The initiative has an adult literacy program in that addresses the barriers of income and opportunity arising from lack of knowledge and basic skills among youth and in the immigrant and less privileged communities.
- In order to be economically sound and effective any community needs to have the ability to mobilize and use the available resources of its members along with external resources to foster individual economic growth and eventual community development. The knowledge to effectively use these resources for problem solving and poverty eradication is especially critical in communities where poverty, illiteracy and HIV/AIDS are concentrated. Such communities exist here and significantly in Africa.
